ASL Over 40 Blog

May 3

Just an FYI that we've posted the entry form for the Dog Days Over-40 tournament in Ruidoso for August 3 and 4.  It's got very liberal player rules so all you need to do is to have an NMSSA issued player passcard (ASL, AWSL, Santa Fe) to play.  We charge on a per player basis so come poor guy doesn't get stuck paying the team fee and discovering half his tema doesn't show up.

Hold your breath.  We may get game sin next Wednesday with wind at only 20 mph.

April 26
We’ve finally gotten full liftoff for our inaugural season. We have four teams fully staffed, Rangers, SOB 1, SOB 2, and El Correcaminos. So far, with our two lighted fields at the complex, we’ve used up Wednesday nights. However, with the limited play that goes on during the late spring and summer, we’re pretty much free to expand to most any night for games, as youth play pretty much ends with Sandia Cup on Memorial Day weekend. We’re also proud to announce that we’ve had the first yellow card in the competition, so it’s good to see not all of the skills necessarily deteriorate with age.

Marty Enright has generously agreed to serve in the role of Director of Player Personnel, in addition to his daytime job as Ambassador to the Court of St. Jude. He’s helped form two teams and is hard at work on the next one. You can contact him directly at benright@q.com. He’ll give you directions on how to get registered and added to a roster. We’re not posting his phone number because not everyone is alert to the idea that the existence of 24 hours in a day doesn’t mean everyone wants to be called all 24 of those hours. Now that we can start a rotation, we’ll post a real schedule over the weekend. Also, we’re trying to make participation as easy as possible, but please don’t just show up without a passcard and expect to run into a game. It’s not quite as casual as you remember from playing on Johnson fields at UNM.

Looking forward, the Dog Days Over-40 Cup is in Ruidoso the first weekend of August. We’ve also had some brief exchange with the Sana Fe league about combining some play in the 2009 competition to give everyone a chance to play someone they don’t normally see.
